NEWS!

Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Mailloux, PT, DPT, OCS for completing his advanced certification as a board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) in June of 2014. The American Physical Therapy Association reports that there are only six actual Certified Orthopedic Specialists total in Fredericksburg, Stafford, Caroline and Spotsylvania. Now that Dr. Mailloux has joined Dr. Perkins 2 of those six are with PT of Central VA.

Congratulations to Dr. Aaron K. Perkins, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, CMTPT for completing advanced research and training well beyond the states requirement for trigger point dry needling and management of chronic pain to become a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT) in July of 2014. There are several clinics in the region that do offer dry needling but PT of Central VA has one of the only therapist that has actually displayed advanced manual proficiency and knowledge in evidence based practice to receive his CMTPT through the Dr. Janet Travell, MD series through Myopain seminars in Bethesda, MD.

Free Injury Screening

If you are questioning the extent of your injury or trying to prevent an injury, call to schedule for a free 15-minute screening. If you are beginning an exercise program and are not sure about your physical condition, call to set up a free 15-minute screening. After performing the screening, the therapist will be able to suggest whether to seek additional medical attention from a physician or another health care provider, recommend physical therapy, recommend another fitness professional or suggest exercises for you to work on at home.

The OCS was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience and skills in a special practice area. Board certification assists consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists. A therapist that is an OCS is also a critical resource for other therapist to help address complicated patient problems and injuries.
